Georgia's vehicle license plates are embossed serial numbers that include two letters, a hyphen, three digits, a hyphen, and two letters (for example, AB-115-BA), in black on a white background with a blue vertical strip on the left. Latin letters are also used on the plates.

Georgian license plates have the same size as the typical European license plate. In the lower-left corner of every plate are the initials "G.E.," and at the top left side is the flag of the country. Since September 2014, this new form of registration plate has been in use.

In 1910, Georgia, a U.S. state, became the first to mandate its citizens to register their cars and show license plates.

The Georgia Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) now issues license plates.

Georgia is one of a few states in the U.S. of America without a two-plate requirement.

Each vehicle (including passenger and non-passenger vehicles) must only have one license plate, which must be displayed at the back of the vehicle.

How to Get a State of Georgia License Plate?

It is mandatory for new residents of the state of Georgia to register their vehicle within 30 days of relocating to the state.

Also, when an existing resident gets a new car or automobile, it is mandatory for them as well to register the vehicle within a week of purchase at their County Tag Office.

After registering the vehicle, the Department of Revenue issues a License plate for the vehicle.

Registration of a vehicle is mandatory, as stated above, regardless of possessing a temporary operating permit valid for 45 days.

All automobiles and vehicles belonging to individuals or businesses are registered at the respective county tag office.

In contrast, commercial vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan can get their registration done online on the Georgia Trucking Portal.

In addition, manufacturers, transporters, dealers, and distributors can also register their vehicles at the business registration unit of MVD.

For a successful vehicle registration in Georgia, before you can get a license plate issued, you need to provide the following requirements:

* Valid Georgia ID or Driver's License
* Proof of Ownership of vehicle. If the car is moved from a non-title country or state, a duly completed Form T-22B Certificate of Inspection will suffice.
* Proof of Insurance
* Duly completed Form MV-1 Title/Tag Application

A $20 mandatory fee is required for Georgia's license plate and vehicle registration. Depending on the type of plate needed, there might be some other extra charges.
